COVID-19 & The Art Market
Updated: Jun 30, 2020

All sectors are affected by the new Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. I am very aware that the art sector will be under great pressure.
As the government’s attempt to mitigate the COVID-19, many countries have closed temporarily museums, art galleries, malls, archaeological sites etc. Greece was pro-active; the country is under quarantine with people ordered to stay at home from the beginning of March till now. Hoping that the quarantine will be lifted at the end of April / beginning of May 2020.
We, artists, must think new ways to promote and sell our artworks. We know that the months that will follow the worldwide quarantine will be hard. The worldwide economy will be at its lowest point. Even with the help of technology (social media / e-shops), people won’t have the resources to buy art as they think that art is a luxury item and expensive and will prefer spending their money in more needed items than decorative ones.
We need to think outside the box. One way to show our work is to create virtual displays (in format 4K video), online exhibitions, online portfolio book. These are the digital solutions
I am preparing a virtual display and it will be soon released.
This virtual display will be made by my collaborator "L, a, boutique Fine Art Lab". (http://www.laboutiquefineart.com/).
E-shops, social media, applications etc. are another solutions already used by galleries and museums
Also, we need to have competitive and realistic prices.
Stay Safe at home and many regards from Greece.
